YFLO Delhi AGOMONI - Durga Pujo Festival
Project type
Experiential Event Design
Date
2024
A homecoming, reimagined in material and memory.
For YFLO Delhi, Oiendrila translated the spirit of Kolkata’s Durga Puja into an immersive, sensorial environment - anchored in shola, a material deeply embedded in Bengali ritual and celebration.
Traditionally delicate and understated, shola was scaled to monumental proportions, most notably in a life-sized elephant - an ode to the belief that the Goddess Durga arrived on an elephant that year, symbolising abundance and auspicious beginnings.
At the heart of the space stood the deity, framed by an ornate, alpona-inspired backdrop - its intricate forms echoing the language of hand-drawn ritual art. Overhead, layered red drapes and shola garlands created a canopy that felt both festive and reverential, while the environment unfolded through carefully placed interventions - shola banana trees, sculptural floral clusters, and textural accents that built a cohesive, immersive landscape.
Beyond the mandap, the experience extended into culture and community. A curated pop-up of Bengal crafts echoed the material palette, and the culinary journey followed the rhythm of a traditional Bengali meal - served course by course, allowing guests to engage not just visually, but culturally and sensorially.
The result was not an interpretation of Durga Puja, but a transportive experience - form, frame and storytelling came together to recreate the emotion of Agomoni far from home.
