The Calcutta Times Diwali Table

A Diwali table, reimagined beyond the expected.

Created for Calcutta Times, this setting moves away from the familiar marigold palette, introducing deep purples and cobalt blues into a traditionally warm, festive language. Earthen kalsis and dhunuchis - objects rooted in ritual - are reworked with subtle irreverence: turned on their side, lined in vivid blue, and lit with tea lights instead of diyas.

Elements of the traditional remain, but shift in form. Lentils bring in warmth through texture and colour, while crown flower garlands - typically reserved for worship - are recontextualised within the table, draped over cane. Hydrangeas and astomeria add softness, while birds of paradise cut through with bold, sculptural contrast.

The result is layered and unexpected - where tradition is not replaced, but reinterpreted through a different colour!
